Here come the holidays, and with them the release of our 2nd edition of our Late Harvest Bourbon Barrel Aged Vidal Blanc. In 2013 we began by picking our last row of Vidal Blanc in late November after they had begun to dry and sweeten to the ripeness needed for a late harvest dessert wine. When we picked the wine at 27 Brix of sugar, we began the process of fermentation slowly and naturally outside in the cold weather. By the time the juice had reached the final stages, it was nearly spring and we were sure we would have to hold the wine for a release during the Fall holiday season of 2014.
Unfortunately, that same Summer our little friend and grape picker, Lillian Bennett contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and went home to heaven to live with the angels. Since she had helped us pick the grapes and loved to visit our vineyard, it was an easy decision to dedicate the first vintage to the memory of Lilly's name. We called it Lilly's Late Harvest. We also contributed 10% of our sales to her Memorial Foundation at the Milton Hershey Medical Center Children's Hospital. So, one year later, we are going to once again dedicate the 2014 Vintage of Lilly's Late Harvest Bourbon Barrel Aged Vidal Blanc to the memory of our beautiful little friend Lilly Bennet.
Stop out this weekend and sample our Lilly's Late Harvest and take a bottle or two home to enjoy with your friends and family over the Holidays. As always, 10% of our sales will be donated to the Lilly Bennett Foundation and the treatment of Pediatric Diseases at the Milton Hershey Medical Center. Happy Holidays to everyone and thanks for making our year such a special memory in 2015.
