We just finished our 2 days selling wine at the 100th PA Farm Show in Harrisburg. What an amazing week it was. We began the week with the Award ceremony on Saturday at 2:00 when we received our 7 medals for the 8 wines we entered. We have never done so well at a wine competition and our Double Gold for our Chocolate Port was icing on the cake. The remaining 6 medals we won were: Gold Medal - Concord; Silver Medals - Vidal Blanc Semi-sweet and Red Silks Rose'; Bronze Medals - Winners Circle Red, Oaked Chardonnay and Vidal Blanc Dry. All of these wines were Estate grown which means 100% of the grapes and juice comprising them came from our vineyard at 80 Shetland Dr. Hummelstown.
Throughout the week we were the subject of several interviews and some visits from notable people. Thank you to Governor Tom Wolf, PA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Hannah Smith-Brubaker, PA State Senator Rob Teplitz and The Sun for recognizing our hard work and accomplishments. Governor Wolf served our Oaked Chardonnay at the Farm Show Reception Dinner on Friday night. Hannah Smith-Brubaker awarded us our medals and posed for pictures for the media with us. Senator Teplitz featured us on his Saturday AM tweets and The Sun came through with an interview and several pictures to relay our story to our local friends and neighbors. Thank you to everyone who commented our our Facebook Page, Re-tweeted our messages or liked our instagram. It was a lot of fun seeing of the social media posts.
At the end of the week, we had the honor of being chosen to serve wine for sampling and purchase on Friday and Saturday. This year we were part of the rotation of 8 wineries that each served for two days and to our delight our chance fell on the final weekend with 3 of the oldest and finest wineries in PA. Besides Cassel Vineyards, we served with Nissley Vineyards, Naylor Vineyards and Shade Mountain Vineyards. All three of these Vineyards have been instrumental in bringing the PA wine industry to where it is today. It was such an honor to be associated with these quality vineyards, their wines and their staffs. Our amazing staff worked hard to make everyone feel welcome and we had a great time introducing everyone to our award winning wines and winery. Thank you Kathy and Dave, Lydia, Keith, Monica, Tom, Nadine, Dave and Tony. You guys were awesome!
Our booth was next to the folks from Shade Mountain Vineyards and we were so proud to be a part of the weekend and to be associated with such great people. It was such a pleasure to work alongside Karl, Jen, Amy, Bill and Ben (and Kim too). The Zimmerman's, Naylors and Nissleys made this last weekend quite memorable for us in our first appearance at the PA Farm Show.
Finally, a special thanks to the PA Wine Association for giving us the chance to showcase our wine at such an exceptional event with such exceptional people. The popularity of our state's wine industry is growing every year thanks to the tireless work of our Wine Association. It was such a pleasure to be able to serve and work with such a great group of people and it was all because of the efforts of the PA Department of Agriculture and the PA Wine Association. Thanks for the memories.
A tribute to our winery in the Sun, our local paper. Thanks to our friends at Crosswind Vineyards for contacting the paper to inform them of our success. It is nice to have friends in the business!
Our awards which we won in the competition. Our 7 medals from our 8 entries was our best show ever.
