Shoot Thinning and Leaf Pulling

Today we spent the better part of the morning pulling shoots and leaves from our Cab Franc vines in order to improve airflow and ripening. This is what the vines looked like before we began. The vines look healthy with lush foliage and loads of grape clusters on both the top and bottom fruiting wires.

After we had completed the shoot thinning and leaf pulling, we were left within vines that revealed beautiful clusters. The next big step will begin when the grapes begin to ripen at veraison, and that step should begin in 2-3 weeks as the heat begins to build. Stay tuned for my next update on how we grow our grapes for Cassel Vineyard’s award winning wines.
